When one BforB member went all out for Charity! Raising over £51,000 for Bury Hospice – WOW ….
Christine Thorpe of Digital Airtime is a member of our ladies BforB Group held at The Ainscow Hotel in Salford. Not only is Christine one of the most active members, passing thousands of pounds of business this year, she’s also a dynamic charity worker. This year Christine got involved with Bury Hospice, after losing a close friend to cancer. Her friend battled for 4 years against the disease but sadly passed away in hospice care. At the time Christine made a promise to herself that at the first opportunity she would help raise funds for her local hospice, after witnessing first hand just how important hospice care is. So early in 2017 Christine got in touch with Vicky Butcher at Bury Hospice and The Corporate Challenge 2017 was born!
Christine runs a very successful telecoms business in Radcliffe with a lot of connections, and her first job was to get 20 Bury businesses involved. As she pointed out she deals with some large businesses in the borough and her first call was to RAKEM, one of her clients, and the rest as they say is history!
The Corporate Challenge was launched in May 2017 in the gardens of Bury Hospice. 21 local businesses turned up for a photoshoot and received £50 each – the aim ‘To make as much money as possible from this £50’. The challenge ran from 4th June to 30th October, when the funds were added up.
On the 18th November, at The Stables in Walshaw, a gala awards evening was the setting to unveil the grand total and to celebrate some of the businesses with awards for their efforts. The grand total raised was over £51,000 (£31,000 of which was raised by RAKEM) – and to quote Christine
“2018 will be even bigger and better, we’re aiming at doubling this year’s charity figure. The money we raised was the most ever raised in a single event for Bury Hospice. They are seriously under-funded and I’m determined to learn from the things that worked this year, and those that didn’t, and ensure that 2018 is truly amazing”.
